Lyn Friend is a founding Director of the Enjoy the Journey Foundation, established in 2017 following the tragic loss of her husband, Geoff Freind. Geoff’s passion was to make a lasting difference in the world, particularly through supporting church leaders and bringing hope to children in developing nations. The Foundation was created to continue his legacy, driven by the belief that every child matters to God and deserves access to education and opportunity.

For more than 42 years, Lyn has served as a Salvation Army Officer across Australia in a variety of leadership and ministry roles. Her experience includes pastoring local churches, leading youth and children’s ministries, and managing the Salvo Care 24-hour counselling service. She currently serves in Officer Personnel, supporting and encouraging Salvation Army Officers throughout Western Australia.

Lyn is passionate about seeing lives transformed, communities strengthened, and children given hope for a brighter future through education, care, and opportunity.

Steven Friend has nearly 20 years of experience at The Salvation Army and two decades in youth work, he has devoted his career to supporting and empowering young people. His experience spans homelessness services, creating care programs, youth pastoring, and leading youth-focused initiatives. Passionate about developing leaders, Steven is committed to helping people discover and thrive in roles that align with their strengths and purpose.

Steven has also volunteered extensively with organisations that support young people and has been actively involved in fostering unity across churches and communities. He has a particular passion for developing nations, especially improving access to education and creating opportunities for young people to flourish.

An enthusiastic cyclist, Steven has combined his love of riding with fundraising efforts for the Enjoy the Journey Foundation and other charitable causes. He holds a Diploma in Youth Work and an Associate Degree in Ministry. Steven’s mission is to follow God’s leading, create spaces where people can thrive, and inspire hope in the lives of young people.

Joy Smith has served as Secretary of Enjoy the Journey (ETJ) since the Foundation was established. With a background in community services across Perth and the Goldfields region of Western Australia, she has dedicated much of her life to supporting and encouraging others. Although now retired, Joy continues to volunteer and contribute to the community through her involvement in a range of charitable activities.

A committed member of The Salvation Army, Joy is passionate about serving God and others. Guided by her favourite Bible verse, Micah 6:8 – “Act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your God” – she seeks to live out these values in both her personal and community life.

Joy enjoys using her crochet and sewing skills to create items for charities and leads small craft groups that bring people together. A mission trip to Chikankata, Zambia, with ETJ founder Geoff Friend strengthened her belief that education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and creating opportunity.

Fiona has been an accomplished CEO and Non-Executive Director with more than 25 years’ senior executive experience in high-profile, community-based organisations.

A values-based leader, Fiona balances commercial and strategic outcomes with relationships that empower others to perform at their best.

Fiona represented Australia in developing the international Civil Society Statement for Parents and Children in the Arab States, presented to the United Nations for endorsement.

Fiona brings to Enjoy the Journey a passion for improving children’s lives by creating an insightful, connected space that aligns values with practical solutions and supports.

Fiona is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and holds an MBA, postgraduate qualifications in Critical Care Nursing, nursing registration and an Advanced Diploma in Ministry. In 2023, she received Curtin University’s Alumni Professional Achievement Award for Business and Law, recognising her exceptional achievements and excellence.

Lynn Wheeler has served as an Administrator with The Salvation Army at Morley for more than 16 years. During her time there, she met Geoff and Lyn Freind and witnessed first hand the early vision that would eventually become the Enjoy the Journey Foundation. Inspired by Geoff’s passion and belief that every child deserves access to education, Lynn has remained connected to the Foundation’s mission and values.

A few years ago, Lynn joined the Enjoy the Journey Foundation team, providing bookkeeping support and helping ensure the organisation can continue its important work efficiently and effectively. She values being part of a dedicated group of volunteers committed to creating opportunities for children and communities in need.

Originally from the United Kingdom, Lynn emigrated to Australia with her family more than 16 years ago. Her daughter participated in a Foundation trip to Zambia, gaining firsthand insight into the lives of the children supported through the Foundation’s programs.

In her spare time, Lynn enjoys walking, crafting, and building Lego creations.

Martin Livsey is a founding Director of the Enjoy the Journey Foundation, inspired by his friendship with the late Major Geoff Freind and his shared passion for supporting disadvantaged communities through practical and sustainable overseas aid. Having travelled with Geoff to the Philippines and Zambia prior to the Foundation’s establishment, Martin remains deeply committed to ensuring donor funds are used effectively and responsibly.

A qualified accountant and Fellow of CPA Australia, Martin held senior management and accounting roles before becoming a Partner at RSM Australia, where he specialised in business services, taxation, and succession planning. Since retiring from the partnership in 2015, he has continued to contribute extensively to community and not-for-profit organisations.

Martin has personally visited each of the Foundation’s international project locations and maintains strong relationships with partners in Zambia, Sierra Leone, and the Philippines. He is passionate about community development, environmental stewardship, and supporting initiatives that create lasting opportunities for children and families.

Jennifer Walker has dedicated her life to education, ministry, and leadership. Beginning her career as a primary school teacher in Western Australia, she went on to serve as a Salvation Army Officer for 38 years. During that time, she held a wide range of leadership roles across church ministry, chaplaincy, and national leadership, both in Australia and internationally.

Jennifer’s ministry and professional experience have taken her across Victoria, Tasmania, and Western Australia, as well as overseas to Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. These diverse experiences have given her a deep understanding of leadership, community development, and cross-cultural engagement.

A passionate advocate for women in leadership, Jennifer has invested significant time mentoring and encouraging women to grow in confidence, influence, and service. Her commitment to developing others remains a hallmark of her leadership.

Now living in retirement in Perth, Western Australia, Jennifer continues to contribute her wisdom, experience, and faith to causes that create positive and lasting impact in communities locally and internationally.

Andrea Morgan is a Private Client Adviser with Morgans Financial Limited, Australia’s largest independent financial advice business in Australia, bringing extensive experience in financial advice, relationship management, and strategic planning. Throughout her career, Andrea has been passionate about helping individuals, families, and not-for-profit organisations achieve their goals through informed decision-making and long-term financial stewardship.

Andrea is committed to community service and has served on a number of Western Australia boards and committees, contributing her expertise in finance, fundraising, stakeholder engagement, and strategic development. As a Founding Director of the Enjoy the Journey Foundation, she is particularly passionate about creating opportunities for children and communities in developing nations through education and sustainable support programs.

Andrea values authentic relationships and enjoys connecting people, ideas, and resources to make a meaningful difference. She believes strong communities are built through collaboration, generosity, and purpose-driven leadership. Through her involvement with Enjoy the Journey Foundation, Andrea is proud to support initiatives that bring hope, opportunity, and lasting change to those in need.
